Napoleon DuBeau

19th Century

The portrait was discolored by a heavy varnish.  There were several tears in the canvas and the tacking margins had deteriorated in several areas, causing some planer distortions and paint loss.

Because of the structural issues within the painting, the canvas was lined onto a new support.  Once the painting was stable, the varnish and previous repairs were removed.  A new varnish was applied and the losses were filled and inpainted.
